Embracing Change

Design for Change

I’m regularly involved in discussing change within a business, it never ceases to amaze me how defensive we become.

Reasons for change are many and varied, most lie in the fact there is a need for change, yet despite this need, there is a reticence to accept.

It’s almost as if the change of direction required is hidden from the organisation’s view.

A great quote which gets to the heart of the issue is;

“For change to happen, first, change must happen in you”

I use this quote in my presentations, it resonates strongly with me and my experiences. Many things have changed within me, as I felt this needed to happen. These changes I had been made aware of many times, but had never adopted or accepted.

Change is talked about by many industries & business owners, in fact, Change Management, is a focus of many industries and business.

If we are to believe the statement “For change to happen, first, change must happen in you”, then we need to accept a different viewpoint.

We need to begin to look from the inside out, not the outside in.

We seem to go through our lives at surface level, not really bothering to dig below the surface and find out “stuff”. Do we really know who we are? Do we really know our colleagues well? Do we care? If we don’t begin to look within ourselves then what’s motivating us to look within our own organisation?

I’m interested to hear your thoughts. Do you know your colleagues? Are you  bothered? What is your experience? Does it scare you?
